The tournament is held in the historic grounds of Pontefract Castle, and is programmed and run by The Wakefield Archers. The shoot is held once a year, as near to the first Saturday in September as possible, and is in memory of the Pomfret Archery Club who disbanded in the 1970's.

The 60 stands for the distance shot to the target from the shooting line, and also for the number of arrows that are shot in each half of the tournament, the first 60 are shot from the start time of 10.00hrs to lunch break at around 12.30hrs. The second round of 60 arrows starts at 14.30 hours, and then finally rounding off the tournament by shooting the Agincourt Volley at around 17.00hrs.

Come the end of the first round of 60 arrows at about 12.30, lunch is taken and then archers shoot for the honour of winning firstly The Wentbridge Arrow, then The Persian Arrow, and finally The Outlaw Shot.

The Wentbridge Arrow is shot for over a distance of some 50 paces at the wand, which is a 4 inch wide by 60 inch long piece of wood stood vertically. Archers are allowed 3 arrows, all archers hitting the wand are then allowed to step forward into the next round, this continues until a winning archer is declared.

The Persian Arrow is a speed shoot; each archer is allowed 30 seconds to shoot as many arrows as they possibly can at a target set at 25 yards from the shooting line. The winning archer is the one with the heighest score.

The Outlaw Shot is just that, each competitor is allowed one shot (as would be in hunting) at a 3D target. The winning hunter is the one with the best killing shot.

At around 14.30 hrs the second set of 60 arrows are shot, then the day's shooting rounds off with all archers shooting the Agincourt Volley.
