Final Results of the 2007/2008 NCAS Junior Postal League
144 junior archers from across the Northern Counties took part in this postal competition run from November 2007 to March 2008. Two Wakefield Junior Archers submitted scores and they were placed as follows:-
Tommy Price - 3rd out of 30 in the under 13 recurve boys section
James Froggett - 10th out 34 in the under 18 recurve boys section

Another busy and successful day for The Wakefield Archers who once again hosted the YAA Indoor Championships, with 155 archers shooting. Another successful indoor shoot organised by The Wakefield Archers, in the form of Wendy Fryer, with 114 archers taking part. Seven Wakefield Archers entered and shot very well, they were Andy Jennings, Patrick Handy, Chris Hill, Lucia Fusco, Chris Parkin and Tommy Price. A busy, cold but satisfying day for The Wakefield Archers who hosted this year's Championships, where 137 archers shot. Jake Wainwright won the Boys under 14 Compound and beat all the other Boy Compound archers to become the NCAS Junior Boy Compound Champion - well done Jake. Nine members of the club made the trip to Selby RFC, six to compete and three to support. The conditions were near perfect for shooting and more than 130 archers were competing. Tommy Price won the <14 Boys Recurve Junior Western and Chris Parkin won the Gents Compound Long Western and has submitted a claim for a British Record...........well done Chris. The other archers shot well but were not placed with Andy Jennings coming within 20 odd points of a third place in the Gents Recurve Western. Jeff Price retired after 5 dozen with equipment failure. Three members of the club made the short trip to Apperley Bridge in Bradford to battle with the very blustery but dry conditions. Tommy Price (aged 11) won the Boys under 14 Recurve Section and Jeff Price shot a Compound Bow for the first time and didn't come last. Results14th & 15th October 2006 - Northern Counties Archery Society and Yorkshire Archery Association Field Championships
Riggwelter Field Archers staged this two day tournament at Stubbings Farm near Otley. Chris Parkin, Shaun Mutch, Amy Oliver, Michelle Kiddy and Simon Froggatt shot on both the Saturday and Sunday (the Open Tournament, the NCAS Champs and the YAA Champs) and Jeff Price, Gareth Price and Tommy Price shot on the Sunday (YAA Champs). Chris Parkin shooting Compound retained the Yorkshire Mens Title for the 6th year running, won the NCAS Mens Title and came second in the Open Tournament, Amy Oliver shooting Recurve won the Yorkshire Ladies Title, won the NCAS Ladies Title and won the Open Tournament, Gareth Price shooting Recurve won the Yorkshire <15 Boys Title, Tommy Price shooting Recurve won the Yorkshire <12 Boys Title, Simon Froggatt shooting Compound came third in the Open Tournament and Michelle Kiddy shooting Recurve came third in the NCAS Ladies Championships.

A very hot day with a victory for Sherwood Archers - Chris Parkin and Shaun Mutch steered Wakefield's Compound team to its first victory against Sherwood in three years, Wakefield's Recurve team went down to its first defeat in three years and Wakefield's Longbow Team went down to its second defeat in three years. Michelle won the Ladies Freestyle (Recurve) section to become the new National Champion - well done Michelle. 29th & 30th April 2006 - Junior & Senior Inter-Regional FITA 900
Tommy Price was selected to shoot for the NCAS Junior Recurve Team in this World Record Staus competition between, the Northern Counties Archery Society (NCAS), the East Midlands Archery Society (EMAS) and the Scottish Archery Association (SAA). The FITA 900 is shot over 60 metres, 50 metres and 40 metres (30 arrows over each distance) and as the name suggests the maximum score is 900. In a repeat of last years results the NCAS Junior Recurve Team was beaten into 3rd place by SAA, and EMAS won. The NCAS Junior Compound Team faired better winning their competition.

The Yorkshire Boys Recurve Team won beating teams from Cheshire, Durham & Northumberland, Cumbria and Lancashire. The team itself consisted of Thomas Spence (Selby Archers), David Price (The Wakefield Archers) and Tim Arnold (Bowmen of Adel) and the reserves were Jake Wainwright and Thomas Price both from the Wakefield Archers. What a day for Wakefield, five archers and four places - 1,2,3 in the Gents Compound Unlimited with Chris Parkin securing his second Yorkshire Championship of the year, closely pressed by Shaun Mutch in 2nd place and not too far off in 3rd place was the Club's newest member Chris Vaux shooting in his first competition. Gareth Price gained another 1st place in the Gents Junior U15 Freestyle as well as a new Yorkshire record and Jeff Price finished 5th in the Gents Freestyle 5 points off the medals. Results

11th September 2005 - Club Championships
When I woke up the rain was hammering down and I thought I'm not going to enjoy this, setting up for two hours and then shooting for five hours in the rain. But when I got to Slazengers the rain had stopped and the world was calm, damp and grey.....and thats the way it stayed. It was quite pleasant actually, with no sun block required and no wind, the shooting conditions were very pleasant. Team Price returned to the Valleys to defend their "Visiting Team Trophy" won for The Wakefield Archers last year. Gareth Price came out of semi retirement to shoot for the first time in six months having broken his finger. Despite a valiant effort and three personal bests including a White Rose Award for Jeff Price (about time Jeff) Team Price were beaten into second place by Castle Bowman. 24th July 2005 - Savile Bowmen FITA 70m
Marcus (Gus) Beever and Jake Wainwright travelled the five miles to Savile Bowmen's first outdoor tournament a FITA 70m for the seniors and a Short Metric and Short Metric 3 for the juniors. Gus who is in his first season of archery came a very laudable 6th in the Gents Recurve and Jake came first in the Junior Gents under 12 Recurve section. A record turnout of 56 Archers means that attendance has been up 50% year on year over the past three years in what is turning out to be quite a popular shoot, despite clashing with Selby's Club Championships and the Scorton Gold. The weather was fantastic and so was the archery. Thanks to all the Archers who attended and the hard working Wakefield Club Members who made it such a great success. Four senior club members endured the blistering heat for two days but only Alastair Kennedy came away with any honours winning the distance award for 50 metres in the Gents Compound Double FITA Star. The other members who shot were Shaun Mutch, Brian Lindley and Jeff Price. Tommy Price turned up to represent the club's juniors on the Sunday, shooting a Metric 4. He shot a personal best and his 4th and final qualifying score for the prestigious GNAS Black Arrow Award - Well done Tommy and congratulations to Bronte for organising such a large shoot so well. Not an official visit by the Yorkshire Team but Yorkshire's Junior Archers were at the Lancashire Junior Championships in force. Cheshire provided a good number of juniors as well and Cheshire and Yorkshire slugged it out for the Visitor's Trophies. It was a fantastic day, very well organised and friendly, with fabulous weather. As usual all the entrants were awarded with a commemorative certificate (nice touch). Our latest group of twelve beginners all become fully "fletched" archers eligible for full membership of the club. 28th/29th May 2005 - The 38th All British & Open Field Archery Championships Chris Parkin and Shaun Mutch made another trip to South Wales to enter the prestigious All British Field Championships hosted by Pentref Bowmen in the Rhondda. Chris came 3rd in the Gents Compound Unlimited section and Shaun came a creditable 14th in the same section. Well done guys 3rd and 14th in the Country is pretty impressive stuff. Results
15th May 2005 - Selby Archery Club Open Westerns Tournament
A super day for shooting with bright sunshine and no wind and an excellent turnout from The Wakefield Archers with 9 members shooting. David Price won the Boys Recurve Junior Western with a personal best of 708 and a Northern Counties official record, Alastair Kennedy came second in the Gents Compound Long Western with a score of 822 only six points behind the winner, Tommy Price came second in the Boys Recurve Short Junior Western with a personal best of 654. The remaining Wakefield Archers: Joanne Neal, James Neal, Jeff Price, Andrew Jennings, Luke Jennings, Jake Wainwright and Dominic Priestley all registered personal best scores. Well done to everyone. Chris Parkin made the long trip to Hampshire hoping to qualify for GB field team selection - he came 3rd and his cumulative scores over the last five field tournaments all added up to that magic 3,450 - yes he's shot the qualifying score and is now eligible for GB Team selection. Just one club member, Chris Parkin, made the trip to Cumbria for this record status FITA 24 unmarked / marked field shoot. Five members of the club made the short trip to Apperley Bridge in Bradford for the second of Bronte Archers' five annual outdoor tournaments. David Price and Tommy Price each won their respective sections and both gained Junior Rose 900 awards. Tommy also shot the first of the four qualifying scores that he requires to gain the GNAS Black Arrow Award, well done Tommy. Full Results23rd & 24th April 2005 - Junior & Senior Inter-Regional FITA 900
David Price was selected to shoot for the NCAS Junior Recurve Team in this World Record Staus competition between, the Northern Counties Archery Society (NCAS), the East Midlands Archery Society (EMAS) and the Scottish Archery Association (SAA). The FITA 900 is shot over 60 metres, 50 metres and 40 metres (30 arrows over each distance) and as the name suggests the maximum score is 900. The NCAS Junior Recurve Team was narrowly (9 points) beaten into 3rd place by SAA, but EMAS won by a very clear margin (EMAS 3669, SAA 3328, NCAS 3319). The NCAS Junior Compound Team consisting of Stephen Dixon and Matthew Arnold faired better winning their competition (NCAS 1691, EMAS 1607, SAA 1585).

Senior Results16th & 17th April 2005 - Woodstock Field Competition
Just one club member, Chris Parkin, made the long trip to Kent for this high class field competition. He was rewarded with a third place in the gents compound and his highest score of the season so far in a FITA 24 unmarked / marked field shoot, of 710 out of a possible 720, just 9 behind Chris White the current compound field world champion. This makes Chris one of only four gents compound archers in the country to have achieved a Group A Qualifying Score toward GB team selection. Well done Chris. Two of our intrepid English Archers made the long journey to deepest darkest Wales leaving me the only Welshmen in the club back in Yorkshire updating the website. Chris Parkin moved into the medals in this shoot with a well deserved 3rd place in the gents compound in a field once again headed by Chris White the current compound

Two misty cold but basically dry days saw 100+ competitors in a high class field from all corners of the UK, including Chris White the current compound field world champion and the olympic recurve archer Naomi Falkard, each of whom won their respective sections with phenomenal scores. Three club members took part: Chris Parkin who came 4th in the gents compound, Shaun Mutch who came 15th in the same section and qualified for a Black FITA Arrowhead Badge and Jeff Price who came 18th in the gents recurve and qualified for a Brown FITA Arrowhead Badge. Hosted once again by the Wakefield Archers this was another very successful Yorkshire County Indoor Championships. 140 archers took part and the Club had some success with David Price winning the Boys under 12 Recurve section with a score of 503 (Portsmouth) one day before his 12th birthday, well done David (he also beat all the boys shooting in the under 14 Recurve section). Tommy Price came second in the Boys under 12 Recurve section with a score of 437 (Portsmouth). Chris Parkin came third in the Gents Compound with a score of 567 (FITA 18). Wakefield has 8 juniors shooting Results6th February 2005 - Savile Bowmen Indoor Tournament
This was a very long day as it was a Record Status Double Portsmouth with timed ends, so the day began at 8.30 a.m. and ended at 5.30 p.m. Despite this, two of our junior boys David and Tommy Price managed to last the pace to come first and second respectively in the Boys under 12 Recurve section narrowly beating Thomas Powell of Aire Valley into third place. Tommy scored a personal best of 447 in the afternoon session but unfortunately his brother David was pipped to the overall Junior Recurve Champion's Trophy by Adam Thompson of Aire Valley who also won the Boys under 14 Recurve section. A record number of entrants (119) made this the most successful indoor tournament that Wakefield has held for many a year. Alas no UK records were shot this year unlike last year but a very high standard archery was on display with a 590 shot by David Heath in the Gents Recurve and a 587 shot by Simon Scott in the Gents Compound. Three archers represented the club at this Portsmouth competition held in the humid and imposing Quarry House in Leeds. David Price won the under 12 boys recurve, Tommy Price came 2nd in the same category. Jeff Price shot well but was unplaced.

Three archers represented the club at the Junior Indoor Championships held in Coventry, where over 240 young archers from around the UK competed for honours.
Out of the twenty one boys shooting in the Boys under 12 Recurve section, David Price did very well and came second and Tommy Price shot a personal best to come ninth. Gareth Price shot well and finished twenty first out of twenty nine boys in the Boys under 14 Recurve section.

Seven club members entered, and there were medals for Sylvia Calvert who came second in the Ladies Recurve and Shaun Mutch who came third in the Mens Compound having only switched to the compound bow about a month ago - well done Shaun. Three club members shot the unusual Double Worcester, each of the two rounds consisting of a dozen ends of five arrows shot on a black and white 16" face with five zones, scoring between five and one. Despite this David Price won the under 14 boys recurve, Tommy Price came 2nd in the same category and Jeff Price came a creditable 4th in the gents recurve. David also successfully claimed a Northern Counties record and Yorkshire record (pending) for the double round.

Four club members made the long trip to South Shields for the 27th Northern Counties Archery Society Indoor Senior & Junior Championship & Open Meeting. The A1 between Wakefield and Newcastle that morning claimed 21 vehicles in 10 seperate crashes on black ice so David Price was fortunate to get there and retain his boys under 12 recurve title against some spirited competition from his brother Tommy Price who came second and several other of the North's top archers. Twelve club members braved the long journey and miserable weather to shoot at Bridlington along with some 100+ archers from Yorkshire and the North East.
The Wakefield Archers won the Team Recurve Trophy, the winning team members were Jeff Price (537), Richard Russell (536), George Calvert (532) and David Price (529).
Individual Awards were won by: Alistair Kennedy (1st Men's Compound), David Price (1st Boys Recurve under 14), Tommy Price (2nd Boys Recurve under 14), Sylvia Calvert (3rd Ladies Recurve) and Chris Parkin (3rd Men's Compound).

David Price came 2nd in the Boys Recurve under 14 category being beaten by 2 points by Adam Thompson of Aire Valley who David narrowly beat into 2nd place in the Yorkshire Championships in June (a match to watch in the future).
Tommy Price came 3rd in the Boys Recurve under 14 category.

Wakefield Archers, shooting for Yorkshire, enjoyed their best ever success in the recent Northern Counties Championships held in Warrington.
The event was the end of season inter-county championship featuring all the top archers in the North and being picked to shoot for your county was an honour in itself.
After a long day battling the elements, three brothers shooting in the
Junior Olympic Recurve Bow category gained the following honours:-
David Price (11), gold medal in the U12 section, overall Northern Counties Champion and scoring member of the winning Yorkshire team.
Gareth Price (12), silver medal in the U14 section and scoring member of the winning Yorkshire team.
Tommy Price (9), reserve member of the winning Yorkshire team.
The Yorkshire Olympic Recurve Team scoring a superb 3250 beat teams from Cheshire (3087), Durham & Northumberland (2833), Cumbria (2541) and Lancashire (2329). The third scoring member of the Yorkshire team was Thomas Spence of Selby Archers who also won the gold medal in the U16 section.
Another Wakefield Archer, Chris Parkin was the leading scorer in the third placed Senior Yorkshire Compound Team.

The Wakefield Archers won the Junior Team Prize at Thirsk's Western Tournament on 9th May 2004 with a score of 1863 beating teams from Selby and Bronte. The team consisted of Gareth, David and Tommy Price.
The Wakefield Archers also won the visitors Recurve Team Trophy at the Gwent County Championships on 1st August 2004 with a score of 3246, beating Castle Bowman the previous holders of two years into 2nd place. The team consisted of Jeff, Gareth, David and Tommy Price.Chris Parkin
Won the Gents Compound Indoor Yorkshire Championships (FITA18) held at Wakefield on Sunday, 14th March 2004 with 569 scored, 60 hits, 30 golds.
Finished in 5th place at the National Indoor Championships in March 2004.
Finished in 3rd place at the Dearne Valley Field Shoot in April 2004 and also shot a first class Great Britain Field Team qualifying score of 353 and 355 (out of 360).
Finished in 3rd place at the Towy Valley Field Shoot in Wales with another Great Britain Field Team qualifying score of 349 and 354 (out of 360). At the double FITA Star at Lileshall shot new Yorkshire Records for the single gents FITA, the double gents FITA and the 30m distance with scores of 1342, 2661, and 358 respectively.
Won both the Gents Compound Yorkshire Archery Association FITA Star and theYorkshire Championships (York Round) held at Wetherby on 5th and 6th June 2004 with 1328 and 1218 scored respectively.
Although equipment problems prevented him from completing the first day of Bronte's Double FITA Star held on 10th and 11th of July 2004 in Bradford he managed to shoot a score of 1326 on the Sunday which was his third and final qualifying score this year for the classification of Grand Master Bowman - only the second Yorkshire Compound Archer ever to achieve this.Alastair Kennedy
